The club

A few good hands, a few new friends, and always room for another player.

What we play

Fuzhounese (Fuzhou-style) mahjong is one of our main games: sixteen tiles in hand, four players around the table, and a gold wildcard to keep you guessing.

Other styles are welcome too. Bring your house rules; we’ll learn together.

You might know Japanese riichi or Hong Kong-style mahjong, each with its own scoring traditions. American mahjong uses jokers and a card of winning hands.

Club notes

  1. Mahjong Club @ UVA operates independently as a Contracted Independent Organization. The University does not direct or control the club and is not responsible for its activities. Read the University's explanation of student organizations.
  2. Playing a scored table allows the club to publish your display name and result. Ask a club officer to opt out; public ranks are recalculated without your entry.
